It is with great sadness that we announce that our friend Fi Radford passed away on Sunday 22 November, after a short illness.
Fi was a long-time member of the Green Party in Clifton and was an inspiring and courageous environmental campaigner to the end.
Her energy directly contributed to the election of local councillors and increased Green support in national campaigns. Fi was well-known and well-loved locally, as she was a familiar face behind many campaign stalls – not just for the Green Party but also for Greenpeace, FoE, Bristol for Europe and Grandparents for a Safe Earth.
And she did not limit her campaigning to Bristol. Fi protested at Preston New Road with the Nanas, the women in white, who managed to see off Cuadrilla! She also took part in the all the London XR rebellions, where she was arrested for taking non-violent direct action to save the planet.
Extinction Rebellion was the perfect outlet for her passion and commitment to saving our precious planet for our children's future. She was in XR from the start and shared her knowledge and passion when she led induction sessions for hundreds of new members. Her talent for communication meant she could speak powerfully on podiums and to the media, persuading them of the dangers of global warming.
Her intelligence and creativity was a great asset to the campaigns she took part in, as she had an eye for what was attention-grabbing. Fi loved talking to people and did all her activism with style and a smile.
In acknowledgement of her longstanding activism, she was asked to give a TEDx talk last year. It is a lasting and moving tribute to a wonderful woman.
Fi was a very special person and her warmth, generosity, good humour and determination endeared her to all who knew her.
Our thoughts are with Fi’s husband Andrew and her family at this very sad time.
